OPTIMIS toolkit and use cases
OPTIMIS is a ‘software infrastructure-as-a-service’ offering that enables organizations to automatically externalize services and applications to best-execution venues in the hybrid cloud model.
The OPTIMIS project will deliver an open specification and a toolkit that supports the construction of next generation cloud architectures. There will be yearly code drops with incremental functional enhancement.
The OPTIMIS toolkit will provide a set of independent components that can be adopted, either in full or in part, by Infrastructure Providers that offer the capacity required by services, and by Service Providers that use this capacity to deliver services. These components are spread all over the service life-cycle.
The project will produce three use cases:
- The Cloud Programming Model use case will demonstrate how the OPTIMIS framework can be used for migration, development and runtime aspects of the lifecycle.
- The Cloud Brokerage use case will demonstrate cloud brokerage and federation across multiple cloud providers.
- The Cloudbursting use case will show how organizations can scale out their infrastructure, using resources from third-party providers based upon a range of factors such as trust, risk assessment, eco-efficiency and cost.
